[marquee 90 sec.]        Amelia Wire Holmes Aaron, the late mother of Marilu Holmes Eagles, was born and died in Louisiana, although she traveled widely upon occasion. She was a successful businesswoman and was artistically talented in music and in poetry. She lived 98 years, and for most of her life she entertained others by singing, playing the piano, and leading sing-a-longs for residents of nursing homes, and for churches and other service organizations in Northwest Louisiana. The writer Francois Mignon thought highly of her poems and encouraged her to continue in her craft. Periodically he helped publish her poems in the Natchitoches Enterprise, a newspaper for which he was a major regular contributor. She actively supported public charities for nearly a century, especially the National Down Syndrome Organization in honor of her own daughter Jane.
